Govt. agrees to new Indian state – TELANGANA

In a democracy anything is possible, no doubt. The Indian Government yesterday announced that a new state would be carved out of Andhra Pradesh.
Responding finally to an 11-day long hunger strike by Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) leader K. Chandrasekhar Rao, demanding a separate state, and street protests across the Telangana region in his support, top Congress leaders including Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress president Sonia Gandhi held a series of meetings through the day to resolve the issue.
From years, pro-Telangana supporters have been demanding for a separate state. But what made the government so perplexed that out of the blue it makes a declaration?
The Centre and the Congress party were forced to take such a step after further deterioration in the health of TRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao, whose fast-unto-death entered the 11th day today and tensions simmered in the entire Telangana region apprehending the worst.
Telangana state is likely to comprise the 10 districts of Andhra Pradesh — the area that constituted the old Hyderabad state during British times. It includes Hyderabad, the current Andhra capital.
Ironically, the Bharatiya Janata Party supported the center in a new state being carved out. I was surprised the BJP did not find any loophole on the side of government supporting the cause. When the BJP was last in power, they created Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Uttarkhand. They suggest smaller states create more competition for investment and are better governed.
Mind you, it is not going to be a rosy road for the government from here. The decision of it dividing Andhra Pradesh will have serious repercussions. There are hundreds of groups fighting for separate STATE. Will the government agree? There are scores of northeast militant groups demanding statehood. It is not just statehood; many have even demanded freedom from India. Their demand for independency is to set up a new country, another addition to the list of South Asian countries. How is India going to respond?
Also, another striking feature of this entire development is the way Mr Chandrasekhar Rao succeeded. Hunger strike? Whoaa, amazing! Dalit Christians have a lesson or two from here. You have been fighting from past 60 years for being included in SC category, well try some of these extreme methods, might work
What is the point of all rallies, sit-ins, and memorandums? Hit where it hits (minus violence) and your demand will be heard in no time.
Anyways guys, welcome to the new republic of India which now consists of 29 states. Someone will have to quick inform the Education Board on the need to amend the textbooks and study resources. If possible better to replace the 28 with a big dash. Who knows soon there might be more states to be carved, and we cant keep amending our books. What you say?
Adios ~ SAM
