Me blogging non-stop? pah! Swalpa Adjust Maadi

After a long break of stagnation, I am back. Oh! Yea, I do have deep regrets that I failed ‘my’ promise to ‘me’ of keeping my blog regularly updated despite any hitches. There is a funny statement made in Kannada (local language of Karnataka) – Swalpa Adjust Maadi. You can use it anywhere, anytime, whenever erred or praised for your shoddy work. It simply means ‘please adjust’. So here I am kowtowing to mark my ‘Sorry’. Swalpa Adjust Maadi Sir!!

I remember meeting one Swedish guy in the famous Connaught place in Delhi. He fixed an appointment and very particularly warned me not to miss the time. He is a no-nonsense man and it is very obvious from this following statement. “It is very strange that people in India are never precise. If you fix a meeting at 10 am, they will show up right after an hour. People here are OK with it, but these things don’t work abroad in America and Europe. We fix a time, then we will make sure we are 10 mins earlier.”

Well that is a known fact about Indians, but it seemed to me like he was overpraising the work ethics of the West. The holier-than-thou attitude, kya? Don’t agree? Well, whatever, since the man was so stern in his tone, let me go 30 mins early. It was the famous Barista Coffee and as promised, I was sharp in time. I checked my watch, and was counting the ticks, 9:30, 40, 50, 55. The man is still not seen..Aw! Must be in West they come precisely at time (10), when the needle stands straight. The countdown was over and the man apparently failed to appear. After an hour, he telephones – - SAM, so Sorry..Can we meet now?

Sure..Why not? Indians are also good for their neighborliness and sweet disposition towards their guests. Are they only known for their ‘overuse’ of ‘sorry’ and their ‘unpunctual’ behavior? Anyways, the man had long stories on the reason for his delay. But very unimpressive na? After the ‘mannerly’ speech on ethics, it would be very embarrassing to ‘forget an appointment’ and make your guest wait…But you see I have forgiven…The Swalpa-adjust-maadi thing I just applied.

So you see man can err, the same with me…Sincerely I give ‘thousand apologies’  – - Remember who says that? Ever watched the famous ‘Mind Your Language’ episode? Well I promise you will burst into laughter…I love that show…So like I said, Sam is back with a bang after a little hibernation. Swalpa Adjust Maadi..Oh! I forgot dont use that Swalpa thing in North or East India..wont work..particularly Delhi. People here have no patience; you can only expect a ‘take-this-for-that’ policy!!
